One Comment I was looking last minute for a beach and ruins to visit for a day trip to Tulum from Playdel Carmen. Built in several phases, it served as a lighthouse, with a shrine at the top doubling as a beacon to lead canoes to the beach landing. We very much liked the Tulum ruins for its location on the rugged coastline, the little beaches in between parts of the buildings and its smaller size of the overall site. Flying into Cancun from the US is really affordable.
